Changing Geographic Location in Google

Google is continually adapting the way that they do search. Currently they seem to be love with 'Personalisation'. In essence this means giving you the best results as an individual rather than simply delivering the same index to all. One way that they do this is through the application of Geopositiong.

Its great when in the UK that we can get results most specific to us. But even when we query Google.com the results we get back are screwed up to reflect our UK position. Some times, such as if you have an over seas client, it is necessary to change the geogrpahic index you are viewing. This can be espescially true when conducting a PPc campaign in European countries.

To change the result set simply append the query string `&gl=` in your browser navigation bar and palce the geographic code after this.

Examples

  • To view the Google results from a US perspective append `&gl=us`
  • To view the Google results from a French perspective append `&gl=fr`
  • To view the Google results from a Spanish perspective append `&gl=es`
