Google and the Da Vinci Code

In April 2006 Google released an online game in association with the makers of the movie based upon the Da Vinci Code. To gain access to this game you have to place the link within your personalised Google homepage.

What is the Google homepage?

For a number of the servcies currently available from Google it is necessary to have a log in to a Google account. This account allows you access to Google sitemaps, Google Analytics, the Google Personalised Homepage and Google the Movie (only joking about the last one!). You can place links to various places on the web from this have newsfeeds built in and now incorporate Da Vinci Code the Game.

Is this Good or Bad Google?

Well everyone who wants to win any of the prizes will have to sign up for a Google account. What this does is allows Google to track your online activity through a name. Whereas before the Google cookie would send out information based upon searches etc about people who use a computer they can now micro manage your preferences.

In the move towsrds personalised search this could well be the start of creating user profiles to ensure that the reslts that a user recieves are as close to their preferences as possible.
